We cannot allow this region, shared by us all, to be reduced to an arena, a playground, for Western politicians to seek their agendas and interests at our costs.
Fifty-seven years ago, when exorbitant pressures were imposed on Singapore to seek your YES to foreign interventions, you bravely said NO. Seventy-two years ago, when thousands of U.S.-made bombs were dropped on Chinese soldiers for our YES to surrender, we firmly said NO. Today, should any foreign power, seeking its interest at our costs, intends to obstruct us from achieving a prosperous regional economy, we have no reason not to stand together, become stronger, and give the same answer again.
